The Future of Automotive Technicians ~ Episode 35

What the future of auto mechanics will look like is an interesting topic for me. I started in the industry just before all the “driver assist” systems came into play. While there was not a ton of things changing, everything was primed to change. This meant I was in the perfect spot to learn what was old, and what was going to be new. But today the industry is moving at an insane pace. Before we know it, the roads will be filled with autonomous UBERs bringing people to work. But what does that mean for automotive technicians?

When you are getting a car repair, there are tons of decisions to make. Who do I take the car to? How much will it cost? Will the rip me off? Will they do it right? And probably about 100 more. As a dealership technician, I have repaired thousands of cars in my career. I also was held to a very high standard by both myself, and the brand I worked for. Today I want to dive into the world of making a “factory authorized repair” vs a non-factory repair. This is a journey I have been on lately and really trying to open my mind up to new things in the automotive world. I think you will find today’s show really interesting given the events of the past few months, and all the work on the GTI Humble Mechanic automotive Podcast Become A CrewMember If you like this show. Hi my name is Charles, and I am a professional mechanic. Having said that, I probably don’t really look all that professional. Does the way I look even matter? Today we are going to talk about being a professional vs looking professional. The two do not go hand in hand, meaning you can be one, and not the other. This is something I have dealt with my whole career, even before I was a mechanic.
