How VW Coolant Temperature Sensors Fail ~ Video

Hey everybody, today we are back with another round of failed VW parts! This time we are breaking down the engine coolant temperature sensor, or ECT. You may also see this part referred to as a C.T.S. (coolant temperature sensor). I have put so many ECTs on VWs that it’s crazy. I really enjoyed doing this video.     As always great video, I check out the channel just about every day.

    Question, I’ve got a MK6 GIT (CFBA) that has had an “odd” warm up for the past few months. The temperature gauge (and VAGCOM) will rise to operating temperature then after a mile or two drop down to about 150F then slowly go back up to 190F. It’s almost like the t-stat is opening really fast. Should I bring this up to the dealership next time I’m in or is this “normal”?

    On my 2012 Jetta I can access the actual digital temperature readout by pushing the button on the dash used to set the clock. I am pretty sure I need a new ECTS since it was 104° yesterday, and my reading was 188°. The entire day. Today it is reading at 187°. That is what it was at cold start, and in 95° heat with the AC running. Just wanted to share the info. Even on this older post.
