Project “Luv A Dub” VW Cabriolet Update
Happy Monday everyone!
I am out of the shop today, so I thought I would give you all an update on the VW Cabby, aka “Luv a Dub”. I have had the car for about 3 months now. I must say that I wish I was further along that I am . You can probably guess that finding time can be tough. It can also be hard to work on cars all day, then come home and work on a car. 🙂
When I first bought the car, it needed a few things just to get it home. Those were all, “under the hood” type stuff. After fixing those issues, I brought it home and started on the interior. It has been more of a challenging than I expected.
Here is what I have done on the Cabby so far.
- Clutch ~$80
- Engine Mount ~$12
- Clutch cable ~$18
- Spark plugs $20
- Distributor cap and rotor ~$15
- Sound dampener ~$130
- Bulk wiring ~$25(not installed yet)
Here is the pictures of the interior stripped down and the sound dampener put in.

- View into the passenger side. I still need to remove the stickers on the door panel

- Looking into the back seat area. It still has the green turf on the back deck.

- Looking into the left front. The dash is still in, but the cluster set has been removed.
So what is next for the Luv A Dub? Well, I found out why the cluster lights were not working. You can see the video of the “custom” lights at Meet Luv A Dub video. I decided to hold off on carpet and padding. I want to be sure that all the interior wiring is complete before putting some carpet in. The Cabby does not have a lot of interior wiring, but I want to make it right. Plus I know it needs some new speaker wires ran.

Every single time you share an update on the project I feel real happy for some reason 😉 I guess I love to see old veedubs end up driving down the streets and not at a scrap yard 😉

Glad to hear man, It is truly heartbreaking to see a VW sent to scrap. There have been so many that I wanted to save. 🙂
Do you plan on upgrading the sound system at all? AKA new speakers, headunit, etc.

The Cabby actually has a decent headunit. I will be adding some better speakers and a sub at some point. Funny thing is, I have all the stuff just waiting to be installed.
I must say you have a great price on parts! Haha perks of the job? Also glad to see an update!
I too share the same feelings on saving a dub from it’s doom! Lol
