Shop Update and Viewer Questions ~ Episode 78
Happy Monday everyone. As you know, Mondays are the show where I take your questions. To get an automotive question answered on a show like this, email me Charles(AT)humblemechanic(DOT)com. Be sure to put “Question for Charles” in the subject. In addition to taking your questions, I have a few announcements.
Garage Update
I have mentioned before that we are finishing out the shop/studio. It is the reason that I moved the studio into the house. Well this past weekend, they ran all the electrical wiring. Next week they are coming to do drywall. I will keep the updates coming, and I can’t wait to get back into the garage. There will be a few new additions to the show after that move.
Sponsor of the Day.
I am also very happy to say that we have a new sponsor. CRP Automotive has joined up to help sponsor the Humble Mechanic Podcast. CRP deals in a ton of OE automotive parts. They also make the factory DSG fluid for VW. Having them as a sponsor will give us access to more information about fluids than I would ever get from VW. I am really excited to have them as a resource of information. I even sent a question over to them for a more in depth answer.
Join me today as I answer:
- Getting a key other than at the dealer
- Issues with 1.8t Beetle
- How VW coolant temperature sensors fail
- Display for car’s vitals
- Getting a job at a dealer
- How I landed my job at the dealer
- Moving up from Service Express
- My thoughts on induction cleaning services
- and more

hi charles, i have a question for you that i hope is ok to ask here. my 50 year old cousin is a foreign car mechanic who is is totally burned out mentally and physically by his job but it is all he knows . he just told me that he HAS to find something else to do. he considered service writer but he says he can’t speak 10 languages and can’t handle the abuse . i want to help . what do you think might be a good move for him ? he’s a harley rider – i was thinking motorcycle repair might be a different crowd and not so much heavy work but you would have to go to school for it , right ? any other bright ideas ?
i like that i found your spot. we are a family of car lovers . thanks very much for any helpful hints , patty g.
Hey Patty,
I think your idea is GREAT! Heck even an advisor at a HD may be a good move. Like most HD riders, I am sure he is passionate about the brand. That really does help the burnout. Plus the change of scene may help too. I imagine that there would be some training, but I am sure he can handle it.
Give him my best, I understand how burnout feels. It is not fun. I think the HD is an awesome idea.
Cheers
Charles
