How To Fix Blend Doors ~ Install a Heater Core and Reseal The HVAC Box
How To Fix Blend Doors ~ Install a Heater Core and Reseal The HVAC Box

Blend door foam

If your MK3 or MK4 has no heat, no AC, or the controls don’t work, it may be due to the blend doors. From the factory the belt door is covered in foam to soften the door close, and divert air in the proper direction. Over time the foam breaks down and blows out the vents. Well it’s time to fix that. This is the most comprehensive guide to fixing blend doors out there.

Today I show you exactly how to disassemble the HVAC box, clean and recover all the doors, and reseal the box. All the products I used are listed below. There are plenty of other options out there,  but most of these items can be found easily online, or at your local Home Depot Motorsports.

SK Tool Review ~ DT120 1/4" Drive Ratchet

SK Tool Review ~ DT120 1/4" Drive Ratchet

Today we review the SK Tools 1/4″ DT120 ratcheting wrench. This 1/4″ drive ratchet is designed to have a high tooth count for low swing, but also be strong. As a VW technician 1/4″ drive ratchets were one of my main go to tools. This 1/4″ ratchet mechanism can also be dropped into any SK Tools 1/4″ drive ratchet. There are things I think are really cool about this ratchet, and 2 things I might change if I designed it. Thank you to SK tools for providing me the ratchet for review.

Its important to remember that tools can be very personal. Just because I don’t like something, doesn’t make it a bad product. On the flip side, I may love a feature that you hate. My main goal with reviews like this is to bring products you guys that you may not know about. Then to talk about the product and give my honest opinion. As always if you have a tool you would like to see reviews, use the contact me form and let me know.

VW Atlas Review 2018 R Line ~ What's Good?

Today we review the 2018 VW Atlas R line. The Atlas R line is the biggest 3rd row SUV in the Volkswagen Fleet. If you have been wondering what the Atlas MPG is, how the interior of the Atlas feels, or how it drives, you’re in for a treat. The 2018 Atlas R line is also equipped with wheel upgrade and styling improvements. As a VW technician I am very critical on the VW atlas. There is a fair amount to like, and somethings I don’t like. As I mention in the video, the Atlas will always be a little special for me. It was the last training class I went to as a VW technician. I also went to the Atlas launch in Atlanta. There I got to do the ride and drive with the Atlas, the Pilot, and the Explorer.

What Is Corner Balancing and Why Your Car Needs It

What is corner balancing you say? After you have modified your car’s suspension you need to do a few things. We talked about it a little in the video 5 Tips For Coilover Adjustment and Installation. On the GTI I installed adjustable suspension called coilovers. This means we can adjust ride hight to dial in exactly what we what. But we also need to be sure the load of the car is even. Corner balancing a car allows us to get it right. Corner balancing is the shifting of weight carried by each wheel. Many things can impact a car’s “balance”. Simply having a few passengers in the car will change the car’s behavior under braking, acceleration and steering. Today I will show you exactly what corner balancing is, why it’s important and how its done.

5 Tips For Coilover Adjustment and Installation

Adding an adjustable suspension to a car is a great way to maximize the performance. But installing and adjusting coilovers can be a little intimidating. What happens if you get the ride height wrong? What if it’s too low? Will my car flip over? These questions may seem a little extreme, but I have seen them asked over and over. Well I made the “will my car flip” one up.

A coilover is an a spring and shock absorber assembly that allows for adjustments to be made to the vehicle’s ride height, damping, rebound and more. This will allow us to dial in the suspension for our exact needs. The coilovers we are using for this video only allow for ride height adjustment. The folks at New German Performance sent me their MK3 coilover kit to check on on the GTI.

How To Install A Boost Gauge On Any Car

If you have a turbocharged engine, installing a boost gauge is a great modification. Boost gauges can read boost level, and many read engine vacuum. Whether you’re installing a digital boost gauge, or a manual boost gauge, the installation process is very similar. The AEM gauge we are using here also has a boost controller built into the gauge. But we are only focusing on the boost gauge in this video.

The ability to monitor both boost and engine vacuum is vital on a performance car. There are even some cars that come with a boost gauge from the factory. If you are adding a turbo like we did the the GTI, it is a must. Proper installation is important. I truly believe that the routing of vacuum lines, and wiring is even more important to long term performance.
