MK3 GTI DIYToday I will teach you how to chip your MK3 Volkswagen. This process involves removing and installing the ECM of the car, as well as replacing the “chip”. This is also known as tuning the vehicle. We are going to be performing this VW DIY on my MK3 GTI with the VR6 engine. Not only does this ECM tune provide about 10HP increase, it deletes several emissions components.

Show Resources:

Join me today as we learn:

  • Tools needed for chipping a MK3
  • Removing a MK3 ECM
  • Disassembling a MK3 ECM
  • Removing and installing the ECM chip
  • Installing the MK3 ECM
  • Checking and clearing faults with VCDS
  • The things I messed up in this DIY
  • and more

Autel MV400 ReviewIt is Thursday, so that means it is tool review time. I will be reviewing the Autel MV400 Digital Inspection Videoscope, or as I call it, borescope. I have been looking for a good alternative to buying a really expensive borescope from the tool truck guys. I purchased this borescope for 3 main reasons:

  • Inspecting engine internals
  • Inspecting behind dashes and in air ducting
  • Looking for carbon buildup on direct injection engines

There  are a bunch of other uses for a camera like this. It is also nice because this borescope, videoscope, will record video and pictures on to a micro SD card. I used that feature to record the video you see in the demo. There are some things that I really like about this camera, and some things that make it just an okay borescope. I will say for the price $145.70 on Amazon, it is a good deal.

Join me today as we scope out this borescope:

  • Why I bought a borescope videoscope
  • What is in the box
  • Features
  • 4 LED lights
  • Good things about this borescope videoscope
  • Where this borescope videoscope is not good
  • Borescope/videoscope demo
  • Final thoughts
  • Buy the Autel MV400
  • and more

Touring The New Shop and Studio

Hi everybody!

As you all probably know by now I am in the middle of a shop/studio remodel. This is something that I have wanted to do from the minute that we moved here. I am super excited to finally get going. There is a down side to this. I have to take a podcast vacation until work is complete. I was very conflicted on doing this. I hate to leave you guys with out a show for one day, but for what will be about two weeks STINKS! I made this choice to I can focus on getting the shop and studio done right the first time. FRFT (finished right first time) is very important 😉

I will be updating things as usual on the Humble Mechanic Facebook, as well as Twitter, and Instagram. So if you are not the social media type, now may be a good time join. If you find yourself needing a fix, grab a random video and check it out. You can also search a key work in the search box and go from there. I will also be checking my email as usual so keep the show topics, and questions coming. I may have to do a few Q&A shows to catch up, but that is AWESOME!

I hope that you are all having an awesome summer, and I am ultra excited to get back to the show. I also think you guys are going to love the new studio, and shop. And a huge shout out to CRP Automotive for helping me make this happen.

Once everything is all finished, I will be sure and give you the shop tour you have been asking me about.

One last thing.

I want to thank each and every one of you for being part of this community. You guys are the reason that I can keep the show going. I appreciate each and everyone of you.

Hey everyone. Today we are looking at more Failed Volkswagen Parts. This video is about how VW water pumps fail. We are specifically talking about the water pumps driven by a timing belt. I have done a video about how the CCTA water pumps fail, if you want to check that out. The timing belt driven water pumps were very common just a few years ago. There are also serpentine belt driven pumps that will fail in similar ways.
