Failing VW parts

vw POOR AIR CONDITIONINGToday we are back with more failed VW parts. We are right in the middle of a pretty hot summer. With a hot summer comes failing Air Conditioning. One of the most common things we are seeing fail is A/C compressors. We are doing several a week. The most common seem to be on 2.0t TDI (engine code CJAA) and 2.5 engines. It is not the only thing that I see cause poor air conditioning, but it is common.

Hey everyone. Today we are looking at more Failed Volkswagen Parts. This video is about how VW water pumps fail. We are specifically talking about the water pumps driven by a timing belt. I have done a video about how the CCTA water pumps fail, if you want to check that out. The timing belt driven water pumps were very common just a few years ago. There are also serpentine belt driven pumps that will fail in similar ways.

RainEater wiper blade review

Wiper blades are one of the most important things on a vehicle. Sadly they are also very often overlooked. Or people opt for the cheap $4 blades that do not last, or do not properly clear the windshield. As a dealer tech, I am very much a fan of factory wiper blades. So when the folks at RainEater asked me to check their wipers out, I jumped on that challenge. Overall I was impressed with the build quality of these wipers. I also like that they are not capped at the end of the blade like the factory ones. That is one less failure point.

Overall I think these are pretty good wipers. I left them on my Passat for a long term update.

How VW keys fail

Today we are looking at how VW keys fail. Keys become a pretty hot button issue. They don’t fail all that much, but when they do it can be a real hassle. I also wrote a blog post years ago talking about the keys and why they cost so much. You can check that out at Why Does A Volkswagen Key Cost So Much?

bad clock spring

Happy Tuesday everyone. Today we are taking a look at how VW clock springs fail. I actually did a video a LONG time ago about how clock springs work. Today, we take a deeper look at the failure of this part. The clock spring is the key to connecting the electronics in the steering wheel to the body of the car. Cars of today have much more to control on the steering wheel than just the horn. We need to have a part capable on handling that.

Auto Mechanic Time Lapse

Happy Wednesday everyone. Today we have a little mix of the automotive podcast, and Shop Shots. Many of you asked me to do a time lapse video of a day at the shop. So I hooked up the GoPro and gave it a try. I am really looking for your input on this video. Here is what I want to know:

  • Did you like it?
  • What would you change?
  • How was the speed?
  • Any other feedback

If you guys like this video, maybe I will do more from different angles. This was a pretty fun video to sit and edit. It gave me a look at how much time I spend waiting on things. As entertaining as it was, I will be using this to fine tune how I do things in the shop.
