In this podcast Bogi’s from All Girls Garage, EricTheCarGuy, and Humble Mechanic chat about the automotive industry. How and why we went to tech school, what opportunities it gave us as technicians, the struggles for techs, and what the future might hold for auto mechanics. Thanks to Universal Technical Institute for helping make this possible. This is the full audio from our almost 3 hour conversation. This audio podcast is only edited to remove chat with the camera crew. I am breaking this up into 4 parts to make listening a little easier. This was a really great chat with the three of us. Let me know what you think in the comments. I hope that it’s not the last time we can all get together and do something like this.

I would fall down, kiss any of your feet, and even wear a dress daily to work, if I could get one of you to point me in the right direction, or even an introduction to that random person you bumped into at the store who mentioned needing some help. I just need some directions, I can demonstrate practical skills, present diplomas, qualifications, and certifications of specific skill/trade schools, and proof of ability. The biggest detractor I personally can think of is my head seems to attract flying objects pretty regularly. I worked at a shop that was stated as months behind, after 3 days he was caught up and I had worked myself out of a job. All income has stopped for my family, I’ll work cheap until a decision can be reached about my worth. I have been certified on most everything between an AH-64 Apache, turbine type fixed wing craft, all diesel-powered vehicles, and gasoline fueled transport. This area of NC isn’t heavily settled, except for the unskilled rice cooker hacks opening on every block. The avaliable clients mostly owe cars up my alley, being pre-OBD cars, However, the owners are proud, but poor dirt farmers or retired vets without 2 coins to rub together, and I can’t knowingly profit by taking 3 weeks of food budget. I had to shut down my shop after my tools went on a sightseeing vacation, and the replacement cost combined with end of life care and burial for Dad, has me locked squarely in the yeah right loan category, so reopening a business privately is a no-go.
