What To Do When Your Car Is Not Fixed Right ~ Podcast Episode 4
/

Today’s automotive podcast is geared more to the customer. What should you do if the shop doesn’t fix your car the right way the first time?  As much as I wish all cars were fixed right, that is just not reality. We discuss the steps you can take to get your car back on the road with as little headache as possible. We will even talk about some of the reasons this can happen, and why it’s not really that abnormal.

What Is Flat Rate ~ Podcast Episode 3
/

Today on the Humble Mechanic automotive podcast, we are talking about Flat Rate. This is the system on which technicians get paid, and customers get charged. There are many in the industry that have strong opinions about Flat Rate. Today we look at several aspects of this system.

Join me as we discuss:

  • Why Flat Rate is used
  • How Flat Rate works
  • Where do the times come from, what is “book time”
  • How to win at Flat Rate
  • How mechanics cheat Flat Rate
  • A Better system?
  • Does Flat Rate make you a better tech

There is one thing that I forgot to mention in the video. That is about protecting a customer from slow techs. Having a standard time will prevent a tech from “milking the clock”. That means if you get a slow tech you will not have to pay more just because they are slow.

I would love to hear your thoughts on Flat Rate, or any thing regarding getting paid as a mechanic, or being charged as a customer. Also, thank you for the feedback. Please post them in the comments section below. If you have an idea for a show, contact me via email, or use the contact me form!

Good Service Takes Time ~ Podcast Episode 2
/

When it comes to getting our cars serviced, we want it done right. We also probably want it done cheap and we want it fast. But in many cases we can’t truly have everything. Today you have me in the car on my way home from work. We are talking about allowing time for the job to be done properly. This comes from a lot of different places, a technician rushing, a customer only having a limited time for their car to be properly serviced, or a service advisor that has over booked a schedule. This rushing can end just fine. Being rushed when servicing does not mean your car is going to get destroyed. It does however open the door for mistakes, missing issues, or injury.

Introduction to the Humble Mechanic Podcast
/

Welcome to the first audio only version of the Humble Mechanic Podcast. I have been making Youtube videos for a while now. Hey, if you haven’t seen them, check it ~ Humble Mechanic Video ShowAs part of that video show, I always wanted to add audio only for the folks that may want to listen while driving, cutting the grass, working, or whatever you people do. So today I am happy to finally get that going.

For a while we will be going back in time to catch up on all the old episodes. You will get to see how the show has changed, and evolved over the years. It really took some time for me to get my rhythm down. It will be fun to see how the audio podcast changes too. I have not totally nailed down the format and distribution schedule just yet. So I would say the best thing is to subscribe on your favorite podcast service, and or here at HumbleMechanic.com.
