Volkswagen technician

Volkswagen technicianRemember 2003? I sure do. It seems like I just made the decision to go to tech school. Many of you know that I attended Universal Technical Institute. While in tech school I worked my face off to overcome some challenges that I have learning things. In addition I worked a full time job too. That time set the course for the next 13+ years of being a Volkswagen technician.

From noob at tech school to just up and moving to a new state for a job, cars have been my world. Now I have reached a point where I have a choice to make. I can continue working with one foot in the dealership world, and one in the HumbleMechanic world, or I can commit to one. And most of all, thanks to all of you guys, that is a simple choice.

Dirty cabin air filter

Have you ever been hit in the face with a dirty gym sock? Thankfully I have not. But I have experienced the sensation of a dirty cabin air filter. I was driving a loaner car to training when I turned on the car’s air-conditioning and got a face full of stink. That stink was coming from a dirty cabin air filter. This is the filter that works hard to keep the nasty dirty air from getting into your car. Not replacing your cabin air filter, or pollen filter as I call it, can lead to an unpleasant experience for you and your passengers.

Now this is a dirty cabin air filter!

best toolbox organization

Tool box organization is vital to a professional mechanic. To be successful, we have to work both smart and hard. Professional mechanics set their toolbox up in a way that promotes efficiency and cleanliness. Today I take you on a tour of my yellow box. You know, the one with all the stickers you have seen on the Podcast for so many years. This was a big step for me. I have done toolbox tour videos before, but nothing like this.

This looks like a real mechanic’s toolbox

Why Does the check engine light come onModern cars are filled with warning light that come on. These car warning lights alert us to issues with our engine, low tire pressure, cooling system issues, engine oil problems and more. If we see the check engine light come on can we really trust that is should be on? This all comes about from an experiment I did on my Passat. I wanted to see how long before my brake warning light came on. It turns out, I will be a little disappointed about the warning light on my Passat.

To ask a car question for a show like this, email me Charles(at)Humblemechanic(DOT)com. Be sure to put the phrase “Question for Charles” in the subject. That is the best so you can avoid the spam monster. If you don’t get your question on this show, email it again just to be sure.

Sponsor of the Day CRP AUTO CRP deals in a ton of OE automotive parts. They also make the factory DSG fluid for VW.
