VR6 Turbo

The White Wookie VR6 project has been going on for some time. The GTI has been under the knife for far too long. Now that we are moving at a better pace, it’s time for an update. In this update we talk about where we are with the engine build. We also look at something extra special that I have planned. I have not told many folks about this. The CrewMembers got a video a while back talking about my fill plans. But today I make the official big announcement. ENJOY!

how to paint your engine

There are tons of ways to paint an engine. Today I will show you step by step on how to paint your engine, or any parts of your engine. We will be using POR15 engine paint kit. This kit comes with everything you need to get the engine properly and permanently painted as well as rust proofed. Not only do I think this is my best DIY ever, I am so excited to start the process of putting the White Wookie back together.

MK3 Vr6 suspension

MK3 suspension

Today on Project White Wookie build, we are removing the front suspension. There are a few reasons the entire front suspension is being removed. I will be painting the engine bay. To properly paint the bay, I needed the suspension out of the way. It works out well because I will also be replacing the bushings, and painting the suspension components. This video also is paired up with a Facebook live show. You will be able to see some of the comments and question as they come in via FaceBook live. This is the first time I have done it this way. I would love to get your thoughts.

I feel like it’s been YEARS since the last White Wookie update. Today we are going to be looking at some of what is in store for the VR6. There will be more to come ;). Before the VR6 is installed in the car, it must be put together. During the assembly process, I will be making several videos show how to assemble parts, take measurements, and avoid headaches down the road. Plus there are still a few surprises left up my sleeve.

Today I sit down with EricTheCarGuy and talk project cars. Both ETCG and I are both way deep in getting project cars finished.
There are a lot of struggles with project cars, from budgeting projects, to staying motivated and even keeping the fun alive. This can be a lot more challenging than many people think. Also as Eric will mention we are documenting the entire process. We are teaching “how-to” and showing all our mistakes. This adds a whole new set of challenges. But in the end, it’s about building a car you will love!

Today I am removing carbon buildup from combustion chamber, the tops of the pistons, and removing debris from the engine block deck. If these areas are not clean, it can lead to hot spots in the cylinder, and a poorly sealing head gasket. I am using WD-40® Trigger Pro® and Scotchbright pads. While WD-40® does not technically “clean”, it does an amazing job of removing oils and carbon. This is a must when removing build up in an engine. WD-40® also helps displace water to prevent rust. Support for this video was provided in part by WD-40®.
