How to Buy Tools as a Gift ~ Audio Podcast Episode 15

Buying tools can be a very personal choice. I realize how dumb that sounds, but it’s true. I am someone that has spent a lot of time researching tools. In addition to that time doing research, I have spent a TON of money on tools. So today’s show it really built on how to buy tools for anyone from the auto enthusiast, to the DIY homeowner. Also remember that gift cards are always awesome, but are not really personal. This may even hope you pick up some tools for yourself.

After talking about Prepping a car for winter yesterday, I have the holiday season on the brain. Now, this is NOT a holiday show, but I thought it would be a great time to talk about buying tools as a gift. So today on the automotive podcast, we are talking about things to consider when buying tools as gifts. I am also working on a guide to buying tools this holiday season. That will be coming out next week. I assure you, there will be awesome deals.

On this show we run into an interesting situation. The topic we are talking about is not really relevant anymore. Well I say that, but I think we can learn a few things from it. We will go into a little about my time with F1 in Texas. This was my first and only to this point F1 race. F1 racing is an interesting one. I am sure there are plenty of things that have changed in the three years since I went. But what an amazing weekend of racing, friends, and Halloween in Austin.

The second part of the show we talk about the VR6 swap Cabriolet. If you are new to the show, you may not know about it. The last project car I built was a 1988 Cabriolet. She got a full VR6 swap in it. This was a super fun build. I am now seeing a lot of the same things on the GTI that I saw on the Cabby. I guess all project cars have these issues 🙂

What To Do When The Shop Is Slow ~ Audio Podcast Episode 12

Working in a slow shop is not ideal. Well, let’s be honest, it sucks! That is a direct impact to your paycheck. Slow times in an auto repair shop are almost a given. I wanted to try and help you figure out how to make that slow time count. You might not be directly getting paid, but if you use that time properly you can win in the end. I have worked in extremely busy times. I have also worked for days where 1 or 2 cars came in the whole day. There may be little you can do about the cars in the door. You can however use that time to learn and grow as a tech.

How A.S.E Tests are Made ~ Audio Podcast Episode 11

Have you ever wondered how A.S.E. tests are written? On today’s automotive podcast, are looking at how A.S.E tests are born. For those of you that may not know, ASE is the industry standard in testing automotive techs, as well as many other parts of the auto industry. While I personally have mixed views on the validity of the certifications, having something like this program is a good thing. I don’t think that all technicians need to have A.S.E. certifications. I haven’t had an A.S.E for years. But it does show a mechanic has went the extra mile. It also looks good to your customer that you have some credibility.

If you are getting ready to hit the road for a road trip, you have plenty of planning to do. But one area people often overlook is getting your car ready for that road trip. This is a vital step in prepping for a successful road trip. I have seen everything from people stopping in for a check engine light with the car loaded up for the beach, to breakdowns due to lack of maintenance 500 miles from home. Getting a car ready for a road trip should start long before you pack the car with gear.
