Vehicle Recalls

Before we look at vehicle recalls being good or bad, we need to understand what exactly makes a recall. This is information straight from Volkswagen defining what a recall is.

Remedies defects relating to motor vehicle safety or emissions, and non-compliances with motor vehicle safety standards and emissions standards. Also customers are notified of the recall, and they do not expire.

Now that we have a little better understanding of what makes a recall, today I will give you my take. I also go on a little bit of a rant in the car today.

As a General Motors dealership technician, I too appreciate vehicle recalls, and am pleased to be part of a bigger system promoting proper vehicle operation and safety. However, our customer base tends to be of a lower economic strata than say the VW clientele. Therefore, it usually,”just the free stuff please”. Our techs go over each and every vehicle for the issues you mentioned, but most times we get the standard brush off. Those Porsche, Audi, and Vee Dub techs do much better. I have to say that I’m kinda jealous:)
