Episode 7 Ways to Becoming a Better Technician

Happy Monday folks. Today on the Automotive Podcast, we are exploring ways to become a better automotive Technician. This will probably be just the first of several podcasts about way to get better at fixing cars. Also, just an FYI, I am a little under the weather today. This show may be a little weird. I am sorry about that. Also funny that I am pretty sure I forgot to add all the transitions in the video(those are the things I wake up at 3am thinking about). So production quality on this video is low, but the content and the message it good!

If you are NOT a mechanic, and have no plans to be one, that is okay. I recommend giving this a watch. If you understand what makes a good mechanic, you can learn what to look for when finding your own mechanic. Plus much of what we are going to talk about can be adapted to just about anything.

    This is a really good topic to help those working in the craft to improve, you’re showing perfect leadership by fostering the skills of these fundamental areas. I am very impressed with your vlog. I especially like the differentiation between repair logic and diagnostic skill.

    Attitude is like a valuable coin: on the obverse (heads) is caring about what you do, on the reverse (tails) is knowing what to do and the relentless pursuit of knowing what should be done (or more simply, knowing to learn). In this way, Humble Mechanic, you are demonstrating the creation of worth for your customer and wealth for your personal economy. By choosing to spend the resource of attitude coin on these six points how could you fail to see a return on your investment? Again, I believe you’re sharing real wisdom.

    I also recently subscribed to your channel after finding a link on ETCG. In one of your recent posts you shared your concern of where can a technician set their focus once they have a master designation. I would say few of these have the breadth of perspective to open their own business and that while you didn’t state it, I doubt it hasn’t crossed your mind. If you were inclined I would encourage you to think seriously about what would be your biggest step. If Eric is doing it I believe you can. Another reason to strike out on your own sir, to give an answer to the ignorant and apathetic tradesman who tarnish the profession.
    And I’m curious, what state is the dealership you work in in?
